I was reading a book
by Seth Godin, All
Marketers are Liars, and he described Woot as a modern day internet
success. I did not think much of it, but I was curious to see what Seth was
hyping about. So one day, during a jobless hour, I proceeded to type in woot.com
in my Firefox address bar. What I saw
threw me off. It was not the norm.
First thing that came to mind was "hmmm simple site". Second was
that I don’t have a Bluetooth compatible phone and I can’t get this, reason being
there was an Image of 2 Bluetooth headsets at a ridiculously low price even for
one headset.
What woot does is that they sell only one item a day. What this does to
customers like me is that I keep going back to their site everyday to see if
they are selling something I want.
Let me list a few things
NotJustOk about Woot:
- They sell one item a day.
- The prices of items sold are usually the lowest price you will find them anywhere else
- Their website is the easiest site to use and hardly spits out generic error messages
- Their shipping cost is almost always only $5
- They have a blog and a forum where you can get more info about the sale of the day
Their business Model is unique and it works. It serves as an
inspiration and a challenge to aspiring Internet Entrepreneurs.
